The Hershey Community Chorus will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner and Bake Sale on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, in the Mohler Senior Center located at 25 Hope Drive, Hershey, across from the Karn’s Market. Tickets for spaghetti with homemade meat or marinara sauce accompanied with tossed green salad, bread, butter, and beverage are $9.00 for adults and $6.00 for children under 12. The dinner will be served from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm or until sold out. Take-outs are available.

The Hershey Community Chorus will be performing its Christmas Concert, “Harps of Gold”, in two churches this year.  On Friday, December 14, 2018, at 7:30 pm, The Hershey Community Chorus will perform in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 64 W. Chocolate Avenue, Hershey.  On the following Sunday, December 16, 2016, at 3:00 pm, the Chorus will give a second concert in the Sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main Street, Hummelstown.

Two new arrangements will be presented this year.  Virg Hostetler of Hummelstown, is writing a piece for choir and bassoon, a medley of Christmas carols and songs.  James Hoffmann, Musical Director of the Chorus, is writing an arrangement of “In the Bulb There is a Flower” for choir and harp.

Admission to these performances is $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for seniors and groups and $9.00 for children 6 to 12 Years of age.  Children under 6 are admitted free.  Tickets can be purchased from any Chorus member, by emailing request to info@HersheyCommunityChorus.org or calling (717) 508-4400.

Hershey Community Chorus Will Host Open House

The Hershey Community Chorus will host an open house on Monday, August 20, 2018, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. in the Community Room on the lower level of The Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society, located at 40 Northeast Drive, Hershey.  All are welcome. This is an opportunity to meet some of the current members and hear about the upcoming Christmas season concerts.  Light refreshments will be served.

The Hershey Community Chorus has been entertaining Hershey and the surrounding communities since 1934.  Each year the Chorus presents at least two major concerts in the Christmas and spring seasons in addition to other appearances in Hershey and the surrounding communities.  Chorus archives and recordings will be available for review.

This year the Chorus will be presenting its Christmas concert, Harps of Gold on Friday, December 14, 2018 and Sunday, December 16, 2018.  The Chorus rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm until 9:15 pm in The Hershey Free Church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown.  Registration will be held at the Open House and from 6:30 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, August 27, 2018.  The rehearsal on August 27, 2018 is a “test drive” for new members to decide if the Chorus is right for them. Membership fee is $30.00, non-refundable, to help cover the cost of music.

Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) announced that the Hershey Community Chorus has been invited to participate in a performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat on the DCINY Concert Series in New York City.  This performance is planned to take place on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall under the baton of DCINY Artistic Director, Dr. Jonathan Griffith.  The Chorus will join with other choristers from around the world to form the Distinguished Concerts Singers International, a choir of distinction.  Dr. Griffith will serve as conductor of the performance and clinician for the residency.

Dr. Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for DCINY states:  “The Hershey Community Chorus received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as the exceptional quality of their audition recording.  It is quite an honor just to be invited to perform in New York.  These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community and surrounding area.  This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community and surrounding area’s recognition and support.”

The singers will spend 5 days and 4 nights in New York City in preparation for their concert.  “The singers will spend approximately 9 – 10 hours in rehearsals over the 5 day residency.” says Griffith.  “Not all of the time is spent in rehearsals, since there is so much history and culture to see in New York City.  However, the performance is the primary purpose for their visit to the city.”  Members of the community are encouraged to give financial support in sending these singers to New York by contacting Lee Boltz, Executive Director of the Chorus, via email at info@HersheyCommunityChorus.org.

Outstanding music program receives special invitation

Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY) announced today that the Hershey Community Chorus have been invited to participate a performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat on the DCINY Concert Series in New York City. Dr. Jonathan Griffith, conductor, co-founder, and artistic director of Distinguished Concerts International New York, is an active conductor, educator, lecturer, and consultant. The Hershey Community Chorus will perform its Spring Concert, The Road Less Traveled” on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 7:30 pm, in First United Methodist Church, 61 West Chocolate Avenue, Hershey and again on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 3:00 pm, in Grace United Methodist Church, located at 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, PA.  This concert has many unusual selections for the Chorus with music featuring some unusual vocal techniques and compositional ideas.  Nothing wild or crazy, but each piece has something unique and appealing.

The Hershey Community Chorus is looking to add new members to its ranks. Once again the Chorus is offering a free, no-obligation test drive to anyone who might be interested in joining.

The first test drive will be on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 7 PM at the Hershey Free Church, when the Chorus holds its first rehearsal for its 2018 Spring concert. Another test drive will be held the following Monday, January 29, at the same time and place. The Hershey Free Church is at 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown. New members can register for the upcoming season right after the rehearsal. The registration fee is $30.00 which helps cover the cost of music and other expenses.

This year’s Spring concerts, entitled “The Road Less Traveled”, features many unusual selections for the Chorus accompanied. Rehearsals are Monday evenings 7 – 9:15 PM, at the Hershey Free Church.  Dress rehearsal is Tuesday, May 15th at the First United Methodist Church of Hershey.  Concerts are Friday, May 18th, 7:30 PM, at First United Methodist Church of Hershey and Sunday, May 20th, 3:00 PM, at Grace United Methodist Church in Hummelstown.
